This September marks the seventh anniversary of September 11, 2001, and we have a riveting discussion with New York Daily News photographer David Handschuh

David was one of the first photojournalists to reach the World Trade Center that bright September morning. The photographs he was able to take before he was seriously injured are some of the most arresting pictures taken that day. His account of his evacuation is personal, but highly relevant to everyone with an interest in how news is gathered in this country.

David also discusses his advocacy for a study of the long-term health issues for photojournalists and other media professionals who covered the World Trade Center in the aftermath of the 2001 attacks, and the larger issue of the stress and health issues faced by all photojournalists

New York Institute of Photography’s long-time student advisor Jerry Rice had the opportunity to enjoy taking classes with some of the most famous photography educators of the last century. In an earlier podcast, Jerry shared his recollections of taking the master class taught by the legendary Lisette Model at New York’s New School.

In this installment, Jerry recounts his study at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the 1960s. We think you’ll find it fascinating as Jerry recalls in detail the classroom methodology of Minor White.
